Job Overview: The Assistant General Manager is responsible for assisting the General Manager (GM) with all aspects of running Daily Mews. This includes opening and closing the business, managing point of sales operations, cat lounge check-ins, selling beverages and prepacked food, retail boutique sales, curating products for retail sale, managing inventories, restocking, and various other core business activities. The Assistant GM has many or all of the responsibilities of the GM, especially whenever the GM is not on site.

The right person for this role will be reliable and committed, with a passion for animal welfare. He or she should be comfortable interfacing with the public in a heavy customer flow environment. He or she should be able to oversee employees, manage scheduling and staffing support, and handle conflict resolution should the need arise.
Detailed Job Responsibilities:
Customer interface, including sales transactions, reservations and payments processing, and light food and beverage service
Daily store operations, including opening and closing the register and updating daily accounts.
Inventory management, including daily sales and inventory reporting, and data upload management, receiving and inspecting supplier shipments, fulfilling online orders and shipping, and ordering supplies.
Oversight of social media marketing accounts for the business
Management of employees, including cat care room managers and cat wranglers. Handle employee time schedules and backfill emergency staffing issues, delegate responsibilities as appropriate and monitor follow-through. Monitor work responsibilities and workplace policy compliance. Report to business owners any workplace, regulatory, customer or employee concerns or issues.
Manage general maintenance and cleanliness of café and retail space.
Ability to adhere to business policies, and State, County, and City regulations is required.
The Assistant GM, if acting as the lead employee onsite at the time, will be responsible for NC State Dept. of Agriculture Animal Welfare inspections and record keeping compliance. Also, if lead employee on site, responsible for Alcohol & Beverage Commission (ABC) regulatory compliance, record keeping, and unannounced ABC, CMPD or other agency inspections. Willingness to complete a once annual ABC awareness training session required.
Qualifications / Experience Desired: Three to five years management experience in a customer facing or retail management services environment preferred. Similar experience in law enforcement or military/veteran service, also preferred. Knowledge and direct experience with inventory management, staffing oversight, POS support, bookkeeping and accounting management. Experience with online internet sales management and fulfillment. Formal post-high school education coursework / certifications, civil or military service, or a degree in business management, retail management or related fields will be a significant job qualification consideration.
Physical Requirements: The ability to manage the sales counter including checking in guests, serving beverages and prepacked food items, and retail merchandise in a heavy customer flow environment. Able to lift and carry merchandise, supplies, coffee and tea carafes / dispensers, and paper packaged goods. Able to quickly restock bulky items including canned and bottled beverages from the retail support store room. Able to lift and carry up to 15-25 pounds or more repeatedly.

Job Description: The Cat Wrangler at Daily Mews Cat Café is primarily responsible for monitoring the foster cats’ daily welfare, managing the public’s interaction with the cats, and managing the flow of visitors through the space. Assistance with foster cat intake from partners, cat record keeping, outtake (adoption of cats), and acclimating new cats to the foster lounge is also required. This person will have some light cleaning and maintenance responsibilities in the cat lounge, including keeping the lounge tidy and swept daily. The Cat Wrangler will also be responsible for opening or closing the cat lounge outside of business hours, providing water for cats, caring for cats, socializing with cats, monitoring rules and policy compliance, and occasionally managing or organizing special events.

Qualifications / Experience Required: One to three years or more of customer-facing experience in retail, hospitality, or public service. A social media presence and skills to assist with marketing special events is preferred. Willingness to adhere to business policies required. References and background check may be required.
Any paid or significant volunteer experience with an animal hospital, animal shelter, animal boarding facility, or other animal-related business would be beneficial, though not required. Any formal veterinarian tech training or certification or job experience would also be considered a plus. Event planning experience a plus.
Physical Requirements: The Cat Wrangler must be willing and able to handle the physical requirements of cat care and managing the public, including standing or moving efficiently through the cat lounge and cat care support area. This employee will have some light cleaning responsibilities including sweeping, wiping spills off surfaces, and trash removal. Cleaning the cat care room, feeding cats, and washing cat care supplies are the primary job responsibilities. Assistance with foster cat intake from partners, acclimating new cats to the facility, cat record keeping, and outtake (adoption of cats) is required. Monitoring the foster cat’s daily welfare and watching for any health issues and managing the physical isolation / quarantine of any sick cat for short periods before pickup is also required.
Personal Qualities: We are seeking a kind, compassionate individual, concerned for animal welfare and someone who is comfortable with the physical demands of animal care and cat fostering in a commercial business setting. She or he should be highly responsible, hardworking, detail oriented, dependable, reliable and trustworthy. The ability to communicate effectively with other employees, business partners, and vendors is required.
Qualifications / Experience Required: High school graduate or GED. Access to reliable transportation. Hard-working and able to consistently manage the physical and emotional demands of caring for up to 12 cats in a commercial business setting. Ability to adhere to detailed cleaning procedures, manage daily checklists, open/close a business facility, and provide daily reports on cat care and cat welfare are required. The Cat Care Manager will need to be very observant of the physical well-being of the foster cats and able to assess the foster cats’ health and take appropriate actions as needed including moving cats to quarantine and contacting partners for pickup as required. References and background check may be required.
Experience with cats and common cat illnesses such as upper respiratory infections, eye and ear infections preferred, although not required. Any experience in an animal care setting and/or knowledge of North Carolina Department of Agriculture Animal Welfare regulations, is a plus.
Physical Requirements: While an outside commercial vendor will deep-clean the facility regularly, this job does include heavy daily cleaning responsibilities including: litter box care, feeding cats, washing cat bowls, washing litter boxes, laundering cat beds and cat sleeping materials, sweeping, mopping, trash removal, and other heavy physical work. Responsibilities will include opening or closing the cat care support room outside of business hours, feeding and caring for cats, socializing with cats, and occasionally assisting with special events. Ordering, receiving, moving, and lifting cat care room supplies required. This employee must also be able to lift approximately 15-25 pounds or more (examples: litter boxes, cat food bags, linen boxes, trash removal, and cats in cat carriers). Range of motion in keeping with cleaning and washing cat care materials required.
